Biological Imaging Development Center

In the absence of a physics or engineering department on the Parnassus Heights campus, the BIDC will act as a development site to assemble, test, and apply emerging light microscopy techniques and technologies. The facility is overseen by a faculty steering committee that acts to pre-screen emerging tools, define the needs of the campus, and determine the goals of the center. The center serves to extend the campus exposure to optical imaging through placing commercial instruments for extended periods in a common core space, supplying optical and biological expertise for adopting these technologies, building novel instruments and sponsoring a seminar series and workshops to adopt technologies from outside the university. It is to be staffed by a full-time 'gearhead' specialist with experience in biological imaging as well as instrument technology.
